Artists are invited to submit entries for juried section of the 2012 National Biennial exhibition, which will open on Sunday, December 9, 2012, in the following categories:
Painting, drawing (including pastel and watercolour), original print, collages, photography, sculpture (including assemblage), installation, ceramic, fibre art and video
The exhibition is open to all artists resident in Jamaica and Jamaican artists living abroad. Artists can submit up to two works.
Works submitted must be properly framed and/or mounted. Installations must be submitted in the form of a detailed proposal that includes the overall dimensions, a ground plan, any special technical requirements (such as video equipment) and sketches or photographs of the work in progress. All works entered should have been completed since September 2010 and only one work may have been previously exhibited. Selection of the work to be exhibited will be made by a jury panel appointed by the Board of the National Gallery of Jamaica. Selected artists may be considered for the Aaron Matalon Award, which is granted to what is deemed the best entry by a single artist.
Entries will be accepted starting September 19, at the National Gallery, 12 Ocean Boulevard, Kingston Mall. The closing date for entries is Friday, October 19, 4 pm.
Artists submitting works from overseas may submit digital images of the proposed work(s) but, if selected, must make their own transport and Customs clearance arrangements. Works should NOT be consigned to the National Gallery.
